Drafting Text/ Page Layouts

I have chosen a number of potential front covers for my music magazine No.1.

This was my very first attempt. I have not chosen this front cover because it is very plain and does not look like a magazine.

For my second attempt I added a blue and white background. I chose this in particular because it is higlighting my cover star making it look like a spotlight.

I then decided again to have a plain background but fill in the name of my cover star.

I then changed the name of my cover stars background. I changed it so it would be more fitting with my colour scheme and made it the same colour as the masthead.

I then changed the  background to one colour of a lighter blue.I to use one colour as I was not sure if the two colours were used in music magazines.

I then changed my background to silver/ grey as it is in keeping with my chosen colour scheme.

Again I changed the background to fit my colour scheme as I could not decide which background looked the best.

My final draft I changed the background, the name of my cover star and my the colour of my secondary images so that everything stands out.

I then used the faded backgound again and changed the colours to silver and pink. This was because it matched my colour scheme.

Contents Page

I then designed differnt contents pages for my magazine NO.1. I took the rippped down the side idea from New Magazine,  I used the same colour scheme from my front cover. I got the idea to place my page numbers in a arch from the magazine Mizz.

I added pictures and made my cover star the biggest. I also added a editors picture but it did not work as the outfit was not fitting with the genre of my magazine. I also did not like the boarder around that picture. Furthermore I added a felt-tip outline around my pictures. This was taken from Top of the Pops magazine, which is aiming at the same target audience. It is also eyecatching as it fits with my ripped asspect and is unusal and not to blocky. I also added a banner at the bottom promoting my magazine.

I then added a new editors picture without the frame. This is a better picture as the outfit is fitting with my genre and follows the colour scheme. I then debated whether to use the same design as the front cover for my main stars name. I have decided not to use this as it is tacky and not relistic to magazines avalible on the market today.

I then added a dashed line boarder around my editor picture. I also then decided to change the arch around my page numbers to a circle as it is more sophisticated and realistic.

I then added a differnt colour/ style boarder around the editors picture, as I wanted to experiment what looked better.

I then decided to put in the dashed boarder around my editor picture, but have it in a pink colour. The reason I chose this cut out design is because I wanted it to match my ripped idea, but stand out from the other pictures. The reason I chose white is because it matched the text of my editors letter.

I then added a white frame around my editors picture as I thought the pink one that I had before did not stand out enough. Also it fits well because I used a white font for the text of my editors letter.

My final idea was to make my editors picture match my other picture my making it look like it is drawn around with felt- tip. I did this so that it would help portray my chosen social demographic of young girls aged 12- 14.

I decided to use the dashed design for my editors picture. This is because it stands out from my other images but keeps in tone with my ripped idea. I also added a signature and contact details as it makes the magazine feel fresh and friendly. I also added more subject in my contents, so that it would feel up the blank space. I also added another picture so that  each section had a picture to correspond with it.

Feature Page

This is my first draft of my feature. This was when I was experimenting with my images to see where each should be placed.

I then added another picture and started on writing the interview.

I then added more writing and added a blue felt tip outline around my pictures. It is the same outline that I used around the images on my front cover.

I changed the design of my title to a flower design. I changed this because I have added a flower background and a number of pictures. I minimized the amount of text so that it would be more fitting for my chosen target audience.

I then added page numbers and changed the background to smaller flowers. However I found that the background was distracting from my pictures, so I needed to change it to a more simple background.

I decided to use the red from my pictures and change the background to small red flowers. I also added a close quote and added it into a circle. I also added a banner along the top of my article. I also changed my type of font to Centry Gothic as it is clearer to read.

I added a title to my  pictuctures and placed it into a circle.

I then changed my title as it was not fitting or accurate

I also decided to delete the flowers on the third page of my feature as it was distracting attention away from my pictures. I also added differnt coloured triangles to look like my pictures were slotted in. I makes the pictures seem more personal like it is either a photo album or scrapbook. The picture of my cover star with the microphone is not in a poloroid a it shows that being a "singer" is the most important thing to her.
